“Nothing can happen more beautiful than death.” - Walt Whitman
Once visited by pain, I begged for it
to leave me be, but it enjoyed its stay.
Merciless it was and unrelenting
until one day as in my bed I lay. . .
I’d gone to sleep; my bed became a boat
surrounded by the dreamy blue of sea.
As if by intuition, I took a plunge.
Deep water welcomingly embraced me.
It pulled me to the bosom of its depths,
and I surrendered as it stole my breath.
My pain was vanishing as with relief
I realized that I was tasting death.
