On Verdant Dreams
While in the midst of summer’s glow
the greens of youth come back to me
the palm trees of an island kiss
the grass that scented morning dew
On verdant dreams, I pass the time
remembering a picnic love
an oak tree swing that piqued the air
a shady nap in whispered woods
The canopies of yesteryear
to shelter every memory
are beautiful unto themselves
as lush and green as they can be
My swing is now a chair that rocks
a picnic, my martini glass
two olives are the greens I see
but I would not change anything
