On Being Blocked

Being blocked by a poet on a poetry site* Is simply a rude way of saying “Shut up, I do not value your opinion or comment, And I’ll not give you a chance to rebutt!” I try my best to be kind, cordial, and sweet In every thoughtful expression I write But if someone wishes to argue a point Sometimes, perhaps, I am too eager to bite. Since a blocking poet does not know me They choose to lose my goodwill, for sure, Since they do not wish to know me, at all, Why care if they treat me like manure? written September 9, 2021 [*Dedicated to all those wonderful poets who have been blocked by another poet and can't figure out why. Rejection is God's protection they say, you are better off out of it Milton, what's one ranting luntic, to all the friends you have on here . . . : )

Ah, thanks, Indiana. I do appreciate your thoughts and your comment. My thought, though, is why would the site administration allow a person to remain a member when she harasses other members without cause? Just askin'. Hey, I'm not the only one who has experienced her razor-sharp "poetry."

I've had to resort to blocking because of horrid behaviour by some on the site bu some trolls and their buddies, hugs Jan xx

Absolutely, and rightly so, Jan. I knew you were one who had been harassed, but you, me, and others I know have been picked on unmercifully. In these cases blocking is certainly appropriate.

I have to admit I have blocked three on another site but it was because they were rude, insulting or mean and I always send them a little missive explaining why I am blocking them. Point well taken.

Thanks for your thoughtful remarks and your honesty. I really have only one person blocked and it is because his political diatribes against America make my blood pressure go sky high, and I can't handle it. I don't even have the woman who constantly harasses blocked. I never like to say to someone, "Your thoughts are not important to me," because they really are.

Sadly it's a necessary safeguard Milton, over the years this site has had its fair share of trolls and phychos who get off on belittling others with insulting comments. There was one on here who used about four different accounts and nearly wrecked someone's marriage and he had to leave the site because of it. Tom

Hi Milton don't worry about being blocked its the blind siders you have to worry about.. I've been on this site for almost sixteen years and felt the need to block only a few as their attacks became very corrosive and useless. Some are more sensitive than others try not to take it to heart,

Thank you, Anthony, for I do appreciate your input. I'm not sure what a "blind sider" is, but I'll try to be on the alert. I have learned the hard way that you have to be very careful what you put in a Soup Mail! You live and learn on this site, but I love it.

So sorry to hear about this, Milton! I hear about being able to block people on FB, but on an arts site? Whoa! Blocking is such a neg. of our times! Trump is still trying to block out Biden. Take the Mohammed Ali way, you’re the greatest or meet you in the parking lot! Xox
