On Being a Poet
I’m thinking poets are born, not made
Concluding this with some apprehension
For I’ve seen folks try to write poetry
Filled with loads of creative ambition,
Who seem to fall flat time after time,
Who think big words are the poet’s lot
Struggling to find a word that will rhyme
Or clever phrases required, they’re not!
Good poets write from their inner being
Their impressions come from deep within,
Feeling inside more than they are seeing
Seems they have a gifted muse built-in.
Writing poetry can be enormously freeing
More importantly, poets are far-seeing.
