On a Rock

On a rock high above life smooth faced rain drenched and sun dried I sit watching clouds paint abstract wanderings on the sky awaiting your shadow to appear next to mine (even though I know it won't)

one can feel the emptiness in these words as thoughts are pondered...yet there is a slight glimmer of hope in that last verse that mingles with the doubt of thoughts in the clouded mind.... good write! :) hugs

Thanks so much Sandra. I am thrilled you enjoyed this one. Sadly that hope diminished rapidly.

Sad but accepting; life moves us ever closer to where we have to be. Namaste, my friend.

Perfectly captures that peaceful appreciation of nature, brushed with a touch of regret, well penned!

"smooth faced" I can't help but softly sigh- as such a touch is comforting. Playful and romantic as well. Your thoughts carry so many emotions. Anything is possible. If it is meant to be, the one you are waiting for, will come back to you. ~ Brandy

Thank you so much Brandy but like I have told the others, that is not going to happen. But I do appreciate the thought.

Like the way you describe being rain-drenched and sun-dried, Chris. Did that many times on my boat and there's an earthiness about the way we feel in that state. As for the last line -- maybe she will! Enjoyed, my friend. Nice to see you posting new poetry again. Hugs, carolyn

I'm sorry to hear the poem is based on personal experience, Chris. Just think, though, how pain influences the canvas and look at what you created in your next two poems. Now don't go cutting off your ear like Van Gogh, but this sad experience has provided the kind of inspiration that leads to masterpieces.

Thanks so much Carolyn, but I know she won't. I just need to learn how to accept it. : )
