Old Reliable Trick

Back in the day Tom played this trick He told his mom That he was quite sick He faked a sore throat Or sinus congestion At times he threw up From fake indigestion Mom said, "Oh dear, You can't go to school." Tom tried to look glum Said, "That's not too cool. I'll miss so much work, And there's a math test..." Mom said, "Shh! Now be still, Tom. You've got to rest." So off trudged Tom To his lonely bedroom Where awaited TV and ice cream To dispel his deep gloom ... You can how Tom "suffered" For playing this trick--- Let that be a lesson to you kids When you pretend to be sick

My mother was too smart to fall for that - if I said I was sick, she made me drink some nasty-smelling concoction - I'd rather go to school!

Ha, ha. I hear you... As for my mom, she probably was on to my 'tricks.' Perhaps she was lonely at home all day and valued my company. Who knows? Can't ask her anymore. (Maxine Wolf, beloved mother, RIP Feb. 6, 2012). :) gw

LOL! My mom dragged my sister kicking and screaming to school. Must be why I never tried...even when I was sick I felt guilty. Perhaps the Catholic upbringing.

Probably that upbringing all right … My mom was just a soft touch. I don't know whether I was lucky or not in the long run. But I do know that a lot of my friends pulled the same stuff on their moms... In hindsight, our moms probably knew. Probably they just weren't so sure that we actually learned anything in school back in those days... Thanks so much for commenting Kim. Best wishes, Gershon
