Old Man and a Tree
A man stands in the forest deep
And comes upon a colossal tree
It has lived for hundreds of years
And has stood tall for all to see.
Its trunk all curled and weathered
Its branches a lush green canopy
He wonders what the tree has seen
As the generations passed it by.
How many children swung on a limb
How many lovers carved their names
How many friends sat in its shade
How many times its leaves did fall?
Its legacy can be a lesson for all
Stand up tall and spread your arms
To love and nourish all who pass by
And always shelter them from harm.
