Old
As time passes
I count the dawn's glimmering glow
and marvel at the rich color of each sunset
where I have changed without notice
the mirror never changes
only my reflection grows older
the glorious days of my full flower have ended
leaving me a curled brown leaf in a stillness of thought
one that could cause my eyes to pour upon my wrinkled skin
as I drink from this cup of solitude
and reflect on the joy I planted
with the seeds, I'll leave, who in turn will bloom
and leave their own fragrance
though wrinkled and gray I have crossed the years
from the time of my awakening
to the moment of my understanding
that life is to be shared
and that we live in a universe far beyond our comprehension
when I look at the night sky, I look at it with wonder
as I try to understand a universe that appears timeless
where the length of my years means nothing
when I'm washed away by the tide of time
leaving my shore barren and empty
where all my hopes and dreams vanish
like yesterday's dawn
where everything I thought important
will be cast asunder lost in the midst of time
by a universe far greater than I
These are the things you think about
when you are old
