Oh Syria

Innocent teary eyes grief stricken face you look everywhere with fear and with feelings of helpless pain! when you should be playing with dolls and dancing in the rain! neither do you like to wear new dresses, nor sing, laugh, and play with the toy train! Oh my dearest sweet child! please forgive us all we men, for we have made this world fit for only guns, bombs and acid rain! - Avijeet Das I wrote this poem "Oh Syria" three years ago when I came across the photograph and news of Hudea, this innocent four year old Syrian Girl who when the photographer pointed the camera towards her to take her photo, thought it was a gun and became so scared that she raised her hand thinking the photographer was trying to shoot her! I cry every time I see this photograph. Though we all may not be related but we do feel the pain of children and other human beings in our world. I wish all fightings and wars would end and the innocent children of our world lead a happy and carefree life! - Avijeet Das
