Of the Greeks, Olympus, Blindness of Modern Man

Of The Greeks, Olympus, Blindness Of Modern Man

And the modern Gods laugh poisoning wells
While their blinded throngs hide under sad stones
From the deepest pits come magical spells
To birth new sins from which we must atone
Blackness, its powers hold billions as slaves
As this world races towards its near doom
Freed from old chains by sleeping in new graves
We marvel at our spacious new room.

Shall we admit, that the old Gods were right?
Pride, our deep arrogance gifts us with blight!

What say you, of wisdom sent ages ago
Philosophers, artists to this world gave
Does such not deliver truth, yet still glow
Of essays, sermons authors in their graves
Dare we -yet in stone-blindness- we so dare
Ignore with the vanity of lost fools
Toss such treasure away without care
Dance in darken pits, swim in dank cesspools.

Shall we admit, that the old Gods were right?
Pride, our deep arrogance gifts us with blight!

Should this poet wonder, were those Gods fled
Far off realm, a hidden cosmos to reign
After in cruel darkness this world so bled
Leaving we mortals, wallowing in pain
Alas! Such dares not speak about it all
How in abject darkness we bow to greed
Built our tall castles with decaying walls
Because we know our failings, our great needs!

Shall we admit, that the old Gods were right?
Pride, our deep arrogance- gifts us with blight!

Lots to mull over. For sure, pride prevents us from positive change; the unwillingness to re-exam our beliefs, and make necessary corrections after admitting to error. Our good and bad are definitely predicated on the past. They are how we got here. May we seek together a better and more prosperous history for humanity. Excellent, thoughtful poetry.

Thank you my friend. I had hoped that this new creation would provoke deeper thought- about this dark world and our journey through it. In that a look at the Greek gods- which were a manifestation of humanity- the Greeks themselves would show the drkness in this world comes from humanity denying the Truth, the Light and its own fallen nature.. God bless..

https://www.bartleby.com/topics/Greek-Mythology-Essay Greek Mythology And The Mythology and lessons of Greek mythology have shaped art and literature for thousands of years. Later Greek writers and artists used and elaborated upon these sources in their own work. Did you know that in ancient Greece, stories about gods and goddesses and heroes and monsters were an important part of everyday life. They explained everything from rituals to the weather, and they gave meaning to the world people saw around them. Many consumer products get their names from Greek mythology. For example sports……..

Thank you my dear friend. Yes , this is new- I wrote it and immediately presented it here. I did not even edit the poem. It stands as it was written early that morn. It came straight from what I have seen of this dark world and my life experiences over these 6+ decades now. Truth of the inherent message within was the purpose of the creation.. God bless..

Thank you my friend. Nice to find that two poets see the merits in this new creation. Sad thing is -these last 4 decades our public education system has dropped into the sewer in regards to doing what it was charged with doing. Now it seems to be little more than a liberal propaganda machine, imho.. God bless..

Robert, 'What say you, of wisdom sent ages ago ~~ Philosophers, artists to this world gave ~~ Does such not deliver truth, yet still glow ~~ Of essays, sermons authors in their graves' Yes, reaping now what we sow, we're weighed in the balances, and found wanting. Likened to condemned autos-da-fe. But I hold belief that kindness will prevail. At least for those that survive the forty days and nights we stand in judgement. -Richard

Thanks my friend. That one eventually reaps a measure of what they sow is true. If only that divine judgement could be quickly leveled upon our leaders in government then perhaps we could get out of the massive darkness this nation is currently in, imho. Your words are right on the mark! God bless...
