To the men who elected Trump this time, you just sacrificed any chance at paradise (sadly).

Poets create verses about Eden And why not? Shining wonders can be made In this paradise of green garden shade Like the most beautiful blondes from Sweden But when wealth reeks like an opium den Causing visions of fair maidens to fade Each letter’s the type to join a tirade Of mad words drafted with reluctant pen Conscripted lines of iambic footmen Bid a font farewell to their loving trade These rhymes in retrograde orbit cascade Against injustice which rises again Position of the universe is right For syllables to show a little fight

Hello Duke, I see that you are taking the time to write a well-versed sonnet. Yes, many poets often create idyllic verses about Eden or the wish thereof. I always think about what the responsibility is for every writer, poet, or prose writer. I suppose it is the ability to find a message that is motivating and/or cathartic. Some like yourself are really gifted at addressing social injustices and fight against oppression. Other's want to see the joy and beauty in life such as family, friends, nature etc... Some, like me, want to elucidate, educate, and make people think more deeply about their lives and the meaning of what a life worth living is about. I was happy to find your sonnet and see the wisdom it displays. Autumn Blessings, My Friend, Daniel

Daniel, you really are very kind. We all see the world in our own way and some different things strike us as inspiring enough to write about. I also like what you said about the meaning of life and how you write about it. There are certainly areas where we cross over...little glimpses of how we feel about the world we live in. Let me check out some of your latest poems and wisdom!! Smiles!

Is Eden or paradise depicted in poetry as a place of serenity, a place of eternal passion, peace and pleasurable images brought to mind. But is this perhaps too much of a fantasia description and oh, perhaps a couple of blondes from Sweden thrown in. Eden In our minds is merely an extravagant reality, can it be compared to the harsh and real realty of this world. This world is crippled with drugs and run by the deviant and wealthy who only seek greed and power, a far cry from Eden. A very clever write worthy of much debate, Blessings Jennifer.

Jennifer, funny that Eden is not the same for everyone....We should not be surprised by that. Perhaps it might be a place where we could all find happiness and not get annoyed by the people around us....obviously no such place can ever exist! But we might do better than we do now. Ahh to dream! At least we can have some peace in our own homes if we are lucky enough!! Take care!!

Dear Duke This amazing poem tackles the dichotomy of beauty and prosperity, juxtaposing idealistic images of paradise with a harsher reality defined by injustice and moral deterioration. It considers the role of poets and poetry in addressing social challenges, arguing that while poetry may be beautiful, it also has a responsibility to tackle the harsh realities of the world. The poem has strong imagery, particularly in terms such as "paradise of green garden shade" and "shining wonders." This results in a lovely scene evocative of Eden.

SP, this is a very kind and thoughtful review that describes what was said with insight. You get this completely. I do believe that life should be more Eden-like for us all. I believe it could be if we would only allow empathy and reasonable discussion to penetrate the current air of selfishness. I think it all comes down to explaining how our rights overlap with the rights of others and how we think of each other in a way we can get along and smile about the choices people make rather than feel impinged upon. I think I have a theme here for my next write!!! LOL!! Smiles!

Tom, we still have your wonderful stories to look forward to and that means a lot. We hope to have the ability to comment on world affairs poetically and more. Take care, sir!

paradise only seems to shine in the minds of those paying tribute to conspicuous consumption once deemed vulgar. It is now worshiped unabashedly. The Sonnet form suits you dear poet.

Anaya, right you are. It's a false paradise if based on spending and consumption. Some of us will always be able to experience a different paradise that can never be taken from us.

A paradise lost and the universe needs to be set right. Not seeing that happening any time soon. Great line about the iambic footmen. Now, aren't you glad you posted your Sonnets?

Thanks Lin, yes. All the different forms of poetry create a challenge for us. I am particularly fond of limericks since they force getting a message in a small package. However, the ideal poem might just be one word. That would be really something if it could get the message across. Laughs, smiles, and thanks too.

- There are probably many beautiful blondes in Sweden ... :))) - (not exactly a "rich" country, not like Eden at all) - But your lines go a little deeper at the end, Duke :) - hugs

Anne-Lise....too funny that we here in the US think of Sweden in that way. You're in a location to know better what its like there. It's humbling and good to hear the perspective you have. Many thanks and all good! Smiles!

Dear duke; so nice to see you write a sonnet and one that flows with brilliant diction and word pairings that stand out! I love your mention of sweden there, clever and unexpected! I love sweden. And so much depth in this poem and i think we as poets can express in any form with rhymes in retrograde too as long as we feel relieved! That was a very clever line! And the ending is truly powerful! I especially love the line “ mad words drafted with reluctant penl “ font farewell“ so creative

IE, many Tys. I wrote a couple of sonnets a bit more than four years ago. Coming from you, the complements mean a lot. Poetry as you know lets us have fun sharing our thoughts with our own special twist. You really are very kind, and are making me smile right now. Hope all is well where you reside!
