Ode to a speck
A singular speck
So rarely noticed
More often removed rather than studied
But here you are, you made it
In view!
All we crave and despise
'to be looked at'
I see you now, your fleeting time
On the side of the roll top bath I happen to be in
You knowing nothing of me
I learn very little of you
Other than you aren't any type of creature
I found that out by gentle squashing
An unfortunate way if you were
But you are clearly a tiny bit of sand
Quite historical if you had a tale to tell
The years you have existed
Perhaps resided in one place watching it change
Or travelled with the tides
I've half a mind to return you to a beach
But how strange to save a single grain of sand
I have some thinking time
It will include you and your fate
