Against the edge of the pond
filled with spring water,
that seeps from beneath the earth,
I stand embracing untroubled comfort,
beneath the cool shade of a tall black willow tree.
I close my eyes and inhale the sweet fragrant blooms
of marsh marigold, Japanese water iris,
and water spider lilies growing along the edge.
I Bend down, pick up a pebble
and throw it into the pond.
In impact a splash, and the resounding plunk,
making glimmering ripples spreading over the water.
Observing the ripples,
wistful thinking about the past,
memories of secrets,
pain, betrayal, hope,
and love that entered my heart.
In hand, I held a pebble of my life that was so easily thrown away.
