Now Gone, I So Wish I Could Sing a Song

Now Gone, I So Wish I Could Sing A Song

Why did he smile only by few inches
His face contorted and it was askew
By the garden was a flock of finches
Old age, do we forget what we once knew
His arms were skinny, not near as mighty
His head kinda bald and his beard bright white
He said his first wife was mad, too flighty
When loving her body was quite a sight
But he was my beloved dad and proud
Often complained of failing eyesight
And when he did that it was very loud
Told me when you do something do it right.

My dad, so tough, honest as day is long.
Now gone, I so wish I could sing a song!

Robert J. Lindley, 6-23-2023
Sonnet,

My father was the most honest man I've ever known.
And tough as nails too.

Congratulations, Robert, on POTD! Something about every nuance of a beloved parent, even if it was annoying at the time, it could be the most endearing. I love my dad’s smile, so elusive for neatly a year after Mom died. I remember the the thing that gave me, my sis and dad a good laugh. Oh how sweet that was. I know you miss him. Hugs, Robert ~ your friend, Kim

Dear Robert, it sounds like your father was an amazing man. As health declines, it will cause many issues physically and mentally. Unconditional love is tough, yet tender and delicate, all at the same time. This is such a beautiful tribute to your father. Congratulations my dear friend, on Poem of the Day. Many wonderful blessings to you and yours. Hugs, Brandy

Congratulations on your POTD. I am ashamed I stopped following you but I always found your poems difficult for me to to understand. I am getting too old and senile. Yours is a fine tribute to a great man. Well done Robert with apologies.

Congratulations on your tribute poem of your father being chosen as the POTD, Robert. The image you painted was well done. Another of the sonnets I amire. As to singing a song, I sang "The Lord's Prayer to my mother on the last day of her life. At the end she joined in, 'thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever' and passed on to be with Him. Thanks for bringing that memory back to me again my dear friend. Enjoy this blessed day that we've been given. Bill
