November's Song
This poem is November’s song.
golden month of thirty days long
with daylight hours that fade at dusk
colors bright of orange and rust.
Most human hearts are filled with glee
another Thanksgiving to see
November’s snow is new and bright
Through its flakes peek December light,
a hope for all the human race
with footsteps in the snow to trace
a frost upon the fallen leaves
white blanket for the naked trees.
Old friends return unto the fold
with kitchens full of love so bold
smoke rising from a well-cooked bird
a sudden burst of laughter heard
air that’s filled with pumpkin and spice
helps make a festive scene so nice.
This keepsake time is always dear
with smiling yuletide standing near.
The barns with wheat and corn abound
and cornucopia astound,
Truly, truly a month to prize
with beauty set before the eyes.
