No Sunset In the Rain

It’s quarter after six, Friday evening. He thought with a smile, besides the rain, everything is looking great. Table set beautifully just for two. Dinner looks delicious and minutes away to be served.

Annoyingly he hears his cellphone pings.
Seeing the name of the sender, he smiles and swipes to read it. Message read, RAIN CHECK, NO SUNSET IN THE RAIN. Instantly the smile fade and his heart sank.

He can hear the rain beating down on the roof, but too numb to move. Dinner is now left untouched. Disappointment weighs him down, yet again.

Alone again and much to ponder.
What is really us? Life doesn’t wait for no one. The rain falls whether you like it or not, sunset or not. The daily excuses are worn off.

At last, he sends her a reply that says, RAIN CHECK DENIED, I don’t need this anymore than you do. We are two different souls, we don’t speak the same language of love. Goodbye!

He packs his bags and drives away in the
NO SUNSET IN THE RAIN.

"Two different souls"...not meant to be together...how well you have expressed the heartbreak...Such signs of love, not genuine, the earlier they are seen, the better...I wish and hope he meets his true soul mate soon. Hope you are doing great dear sweet Kina...Hugs...~ Ani

I've been there before... "No sunset in the rain" is not a happy place. But there is a rainbow waiting to show its colors that will usually in time show its face :) Hoping your brother will find it soon. Great write, Akkina. Hugs Charlie

Through rain or shine, Akkina. Many who love make it work, without being affected by the weather or other circumstances. Something to ponder on; what about lovers who live in the snowy parts of the world?? Aha. From start to finish you had me glued! More please sequel. ;)

This is so sad, Akkina. It takes two to tango; if one opts out, then that's it :( I suppose that a 'goodbye' was inevitable...) When the persons involved do not speak the same language of love it's useless to keep hoping... Regards // paul

You are such a talented and creative storyteller. I absolutely loved this, and felt what youve conveyed here in such a profound manner. And i really love that title, no sunset in the rain. So creative and artistic. And you are right time waits for no one, and its now or never. And the metaphorical way you’ve delivered this is so good. The opening is so lyrical too . Sending you light always

WoW! Such a sad story. Beautifully written with great emotion. Perfect description. I could see the room perfectly set with firelight and candles on the table in preparation for a romantic evening. The the phone call and the crest fallen man. Nicely done. Left me asking, "And Then What Happened?" God Bless, JB

Hmmm... You got me thinking, you know what I am like... interesting analogy or is it a true reflection of something personal you are around... You wrote it very well and its context is something so many will interpret in their own way.. Its so nice to see you writing and posting again. this is a bit different to your normal style, but I enjoyed reading it..

Hey you, :) Yeah, I wasn’t too happy writing this. But it also help me find peace in another way. I can handle my own pain, but it pains me more to see my brother go through it… I will try to write more. But I really do love to read more than anything. I just love my books :)

Loved this verse Akkina. So many can relate to it. Someone very close to me said that exact statement ‘rain check’ once regarding my birthday and I thought no! My birthday will come and go regardless of you! Letting go of a loved one, a relationship, is incredibly hard but sometimes you just have to. March forward - eyes to the sun! Blessings to you.

This story is an absolute delight, filled with the promise of a beautiful conclusion. In a world where time is fleeting, it reminds us of the importance of everlasting love. When two souls choose to intertwine, their hearts beat as one, their lives become intertwined, and their love knows no bounds. Akkina, your poetic words truly ignite contemplation and emotion.

Adults making adult decisions. Each has a right to be who they are, if they're not compatible it's best the move on as soon as it's known. Life is too short and Love relationships need to be forever; it will be forever if two decide to become one heart, one life and one Love. Thought provoking poetry, Akkina. Have a great weekend, my friend. Bill
