No Special Talent
I do not know much, he says. But I know a little.
I know better, but this is how he works the room.
His emotional I.Q. is unsurpassed, I am a witness.
He wanders around the room, listening.
It is the greatest gift you can give to most people.
They begin turning their souls inside out, telling him all.
I hear things about my relatives and friends I never knew.
I am just listening, he tells his wife, who is ready to leave.
Just a few more minutes. They stay three more hours.
By the time they go, people are hugging him good-bye.
Grateful for his curiosity, which gave them an opportunity to share.
His special talent is listening and caring.
I am thrilled and grateful that he is my father.
