No One's the Same Color As I

No one’s the same color as I. Others are orange and pink and rainbow. I am turquoise with blotches of brown. Do they have nightmares slithering around in their minds? Do they stay awake at night, afraid of being touched? They say “I know how you feel.” This makes me mad. I feel red on my good days. On my bad days I feel green with gold flecks. If I share this, they whisper to each other. They pretend happiness. I don’t believe them. They blossom. I shrink. They cry. I smile. Maybe we aren’t so different after all.
