Some have proposed that the modern day April Fool’s custom originated in France, officially with the Edict of Roussillon, in which Charles IX decreed that the new year would no longer begin on Easter, as had been common throughout Christendom, but rather on January 1. Those who clung to the old ways were considered the “April Fools.” Hence, the custom of April Fool's Day was created.

Leaves fall like our years. Flowers fade like our hours. The clouds fleet by like our illusions. The light diminishes our intelligence. The days are shorter. The sun grows colder. We’re no longer naïve, no longer April’s fool.

Sara, I confess I'm still an April Fool, but not foolish enough to not enjoy this poem. Thanks

We grow old and we are no longer naive. Well said, though I feel too old to be reminded. Loved your poem. Blessings.

A wonderful poem Sara. I hope I am no longer naive. But each time I say I've seen it all, someone comes up with another way to try to trick us.

I'm grateful you liked my poem. I, too, at my age would like to think I'm not naive...then one of my neighbors does something or some news clip totally shocks me. I sometimes wonder if I'm one of the few who don't give into trickery :-) thanks for stopping by, Jerry. enjoy your evening, Sara

I'm not a fan of 'old age' poems but your poem, No Longer April's Fool' was great. I enjoyed the imagery.
