I read your glowing comment My work was ‘the best poem you’d ever read’! I had a huge grin upon my face and a swelling in my head I proudly told my hubby and then he said to me “Jan, I’ve read that comment on loads of poem - it means diddly-squat … can’t you see” I’d rather have one genuine comment Than one that is for the masses So if this poem gets any unique praise I will get myself some new reading glasses 09-24-17

Jan, I had to, out of irony, choose no comment to comment on. Your poems are just what I have been looking for to share with my English classes as GOOD POETRY! Keep writing my new friend-you are wonderful. Terri Stiles

That is very kind of you Terri. I never wrote a poem until my hubby had cancer surgery in 2013 and now I can't stop and my simple poems and limericks are proof poetry can be fun and doesn't have to be stuffy. I am performing a couple of poems at the Manx Lit fest on Saturday - poetry is alive and kicking on our little Island:-) hugs Jan xx

I am enjoying your poems because they often make me smile. I have received glowing comments dripping with superlatives for light poems that were not anything worth mentioning and have found the same comment copied and pasted to many different poems. There is one user here who does that quite often. I usually thank him for the copy&paste.

It makes me smile Agnes as it is so insincere and really is a pointless exercise as it means nothing. I've had this happen to me on and off ever since I joined soup and I see someone else say they see it on other sites so it is not unique lol:-) hugs jan xx

Like it. Came up under my search for "rhymes on the confidence game". Don't know why.

Lol Jospeh that is really funny as it doesn't boost my confidence to get the same comment as everyone else!:-) hugs jan xx

Kidding, this made me smile, I often just say beautiful, or nice, or loved it, but if I do, is sincere, I am often at a loss for words on commenting!

I called out a cut and paster when he left a comment, it didn't seem like he had even read it, so I said what's the point in my reply, he hasn't come back but that's ok I knew it was insincere anyway, good idea for a poem!

LOL John:-) I find it so insincere I would rather not have a comment at all it's not as though there is any kudos on the site for commenting, not like on other some sites where you have to comment to be able to post a poem. I hope we never get that on soup!:-) hugs jan xx

I can only speak for myself. I do not comment for the sake of comment if the poem has no merit or it it's boring. Apparently not all poets on the Soup edit their work to see if it makes sense? And I avoid using words that that give the poet more credit than he/she deserves. This was a good topic for reflection. / M

I am still glowing (literally lol) from your comment on my piles poem which really did make my day!!! I can't see the point of making a comment unless it is genuine:-) hugs jan xx
Date: 9/24/2017 9:38:00 AM
Haha....you have to look at the intent of some comments...some are being friendly, some honestly care about you writes and enjoy your poetry, but there are a few who just comment for popularity or a return comment...those are easy to see because you can tell they didn't read the poem or maybe just have read the last two lines...have a great day...off to the football field for most of the day.

Your 'unique' comment made me smile and lol :-) I have a great example of someone commenting on a poem but not reading it at all Tim lol I will mail you about it lol:-) hugs jan xx

Some new reading glasses! Ha! I have a pair myself, but am too stubborn to use them! When I write glowing remarks on my comments I always mean them, I couldn't write them if I didn't honestly think that! Sometimes I get put in auto-pilot to get to everyone, but I still try to write a genuine statement within my usual remarks! I try to make each as unique as possible, there are those that deserve extra comments like this one, as your poem touched on something that can happen at times! Great Work!

You always write such lovely comments Russell and don't cut and paste them:-) I recall getting the most glowing comment I'd ever received on a poem and then saw it on numerous poems and it totally devalues what has been said. I do try and make sincere comments as each poem deserves recognition in its own right:-) Hope you are continuing with the healing process ... i see your poetry is still flowing which is wonderful! hugs jan xx

i see your point, jan...just wondering if most take that' haven' code of this site where members are encouraged to be ' nice' despite the quality of a piece... an honest write from you.. huggs

I try and comment as widely as I can and only use the odd cut and paste with congratulations where i've already commented on the poem previously and i usually try and make the 2nd comment personal too if time allows, but a generic glowing comment is pretty pointless to me:-) hugs Jan xx

Your title is unique, but what you're pointing out is even more exclusive. Someone who has to copy/paste the same comment on poems should not bother to comment at all. It's rather moronic of him/her to think it wouldn't be noticed. Let those who drool over the writes of a particular poet or poetess continue to do so. I'll take one sincere reaction to one of my poems over copycat, follow-the-leader remarks left by those given out of friendship. This goes for contest judging, too. Bravo, Jan!

It's happened to me several times in the last year Lin I hate insincerity and would prefer to have one genuine unique comment to one that everyone gets irrespective as the quality of the poem they actually posted. :-) hugs jan xx
