No Coattails

See me now, Pop..... I rode your coattails faithfully see me now from high upon your perch..... fires burn I smile, enjoying the heat violence erupts sheltering the weak hearts are crushed, we climb the mountaintop daydreams dashed we begin again Blessings Bestowed I fall to my knees passersby I give a piece of my heart look Pop no coattails

Interesting topic about being in the shadow of your father and now being able to stand alone. I hope that everything is alright with you the two. Keep writing. Sara

Wonderful piece, James! You've made an important point with this one (actually, several points). Thanks for the reminder to strive for what we know is the right way, to stand on our own, and to count our blessings! Hugs, Donna

Eventually, we lose the need for coattails because there are fathers like yours who taught you well. He was a great role model, James, and now you can act as a mentor for others through poetry like this. Very nice write! Love, Carolyn
