A difficult time in history but I imagine moments took on extrordinary meaning in the shadow of possible death. They would have truly known the meaning of living in the moment.

My father remembers asking his mother what street lights were the first time he saw them lit in England. He was probably about 5. Now we cuss the light pollution!!! If only we truly knew. Great tanka, yet again you have us all thinking.

Dear Harry, I expect your father told you of the time the gas lamps had to be used. I can hardly imagine what it is like to be seeing "enemy bombs raining down." An extraordinary tanka! Love, Carolyn

And boy didn't they rain. Incredible guile and togetherness in those days. Nice one Harry, and very fitting for today's celebrations. Have a lovely weekend <*> James.
