Night Freeze

Outside you can feel the freeze Temperatures below zero degrees, Dark the night, snow lays around Like a blanket on the ground White and glistening in the lamp light Another piece of natures beautiful delight. I feel its icey touch upon my skin Leaving me with burning feelings As my skin turns red, and starts going numb This winters night a homeless person's fright It would be, on nights like this Hard to survive the cold as it is The pensioner, prisoner in their home Will always fear the cold Many sleep and never again wake I wish everyone makes it through the cold safe And get to see the children play In the snow building snowmen again.

My heart breaks for the homeless; during our southern heat waves as well. Beautiful piece Wade.

So many of us wonder how the homeless do it. I see them under bridges on my way to work, lying wrapped up, close to the heat vents where warm air is rising. A thoughtful poem.
