Needing You
I need you but you don't need me
My famished friendships far too meager
For your tribute I'm too eager
Your casual contact is my ectasy
I close my teeth over extravagant praise
I walk my words delicately over quicksand
Balancing banal face against expecting grand
Regard, simple notice and my spirits raise
Every day I muzzle my monstrous greed
My pride and desire must equally hinder
In nonchalance only can I join your splendor
The self I keep is the one I feed-
