Stars to drown in Heaven's pleat Told, too late, that dawn is nigh Butter moon melts yellow, sweet Spread with baste upon the sky - (Naught but left to wonder why) Berried bows that purse to kiss Tender lips 'neath honeyed hair Lovers swim thru' meadow bliss Lost to passion, bright and bare - (Naught but left to wonder where) In the beryl boughs they weave On the wing, what throats allow Nightingales thus dearly grieve Of the morning's furrowed brow - (Naught but left to wonder how) Sojourn life, to death from birth Bound for dreams and back again Loves and reefs to gore our girth Washed to ruin at journey's end - (Naught but left to wonder when) We peering humans look to see Paths and prints we left behind Still, we've gypsies yet to free - All that wanders thru our mind - (All the wonders ... left to find) All the wonders ... ~ 1st Place ~ in the "Strand Special 4, Any Form, Any Theme" Poetry Contest, Brian Strand, Judge & Sponsor.
