Natural Consequences

Natural consequences. Nothing better. You lie. We do not believe you now. You are mean – calling names, writing us hate notes. Nobody wants to be your friend. You are disruptive and disrespectful to our teacher? When grades come out, you probably will not earn that extra point that could have pushed you to the next grade. You are unkind to your classmates? They all notice. You are hurting? We no longer care. We are children who gave you hundreds of chances, because we are children. And this is what children do. If you alienate us, you alienate the world. Natural consequences.

Awesome poem! So much of the "mess" in our society is from people interfering with the "natural consequences"... trying to rescue or take people off the hook. Feeling the weight of our actions day-to-day is one of the best motivators for change!
