The richest man in the world and some other very rich and powerful people are celebrating a "new world order." They have a lot to gain, but it will come at the expense of many Trump supporters and the rest of us over time. Capitalism is based on self interest, but when psychotic narcissist individuals get access to the reigns of power, they can foster enormous destruction without remorse.

I am afraid that Trump one day, with Musk's trillions assisting, is angling to become a Dictator, of course Musk will then vie for more power. I am sad for America. I think a great many voters would like to reverse their vote, not easy now! We follow CNN news. Blessings Jennifer.

Jennifer, your observation matches what we see here. A small group of people making decisions to make themselves more rich and powerful at the expense of the public at large. The people associated with D.T. have unmitigated hubris and not much concern for the long term affects of what they've started.

Hilda....too funny. Last time I looked I was not part of the 1.0% or even close (not to mention the 0.1% or the 0.01%). From what you are saying, it sounds like you are! I didn't contribute almost $150 million to a presidential campaign like Musk did. That kind of money and influence eclipses the influence of people like me. I apologize if I underestimated your net worth!

BTW Hilda, there are many examples of externalities in economics. The damage done by algorithms on platforms of social media companies (supported by those who control them) is an expense borne by society at large. Musk and other social media owners can make money operating internet based platforms while they saddle the society at large with the aftereffects. BTW, these are not government entities and the first amendment regarding free speech does not apply. Do private companies have a responsibility to protect people from the undesirable results of using their product? They know that would be costly and they'd rather pass that cost to you and me (and to our kids). This is not a popular subject for oligarchs. If you ever want to have a detailed discussion about this, I would oblige.

Thanks Hilda. This limerick was written about our transition to oligarchy at the expense of people like us...those not part of the richest 0.1 percent. In the end, the ability we have to purchase what we need or want will degrade faster now. I can explain this with an example (inductive method). The push to mine more oil, gas, and coal will make some people richer and may even lower the immediate price of fossil fuel for the society. However, the cost not accounted for (an externality in economics) occurs from damage due to accelerated climate change. I maintain that this externality will more than offset the wealth granted to the agents of extraction and mining in just a few years or decades. At some point it could overwhelm the entire planet. This certainly doesn't matter to people who think short term or of themselves only or who plan to colonize Mars.

Hi Debbie...yes I am fine indeed. Had a few medical issues over the past 3 years, but nothing suggesting the end yet! Hope you and your family are well. You always projected a fondness for everyone currently in your life, and that is a testament to kind of kind person you are. Hope you will write and share more poetry. If you do, let us all know as there are several of us who would love to read more of your work. I do know that sometimes it's just not something we have the inclination to do. I am just thrilled you're out there!

It does seem money may have influenced this vote... I am not a fan of Musk, he seems like a dangerous power hungry character... a bit like Trump.. Im not well versed in American politics, but I do wish that everything will be ok...

We're hoping...but it seems we have made a giant step toward autocracy, which doesn't seem to bother a majority of the voters here. It's true that media, money, and personality have influenced this transition, which will benefit the wealthiest people the most. What happens to the rest of us and to relationships around the world is an open question, but if history be an indication, there's cause for concern. It seems remarkable to me that some very rich individuals think they can control everything. It's as if they came from Mars, which is a failed planet.

Dear Duke, iv been thinking of you, as iv been reading about election results. Hope for the best always and lets manifest good things will come our way, this world is full of narcissistic politicians and more. We can only be hopeful. So much hate over politics. Me and my bestfriend have very different views on politics, so we decided not to discuss (she being an american loves discussing) haha however, i respect all and will keep praying oneday, innocent souls wont be attacked and will be free. IE, a lot of strange behavior surfacing including gloating by supporters of the winner. However, autocratic rule has often led to substantial chaos since autocrats think they know more than anyone else or that no need exists to abide by carefully negotiated agreements. I do agree we need to remain hopeful, watch carefully, and defend the system of law we depend on. We're going to continue smiling for now and see what happens next.

Duke he is appointing his cabinet as I post this...a FOX NEWS host is our Secretary of Defense!! The most powerful military force in the world, just because they agreed on the show that women should no longer serve in combat rolls. RFK JR as our Health expert, the frootloop will oversee our Dept of Health & Human practices, and urge us away from vaccinations! fluoride causes retardation, stuff like that. This is our new reality. You brought smiles today, Duke!

...climate change getting worse from increased drilling and extraction of fossil fuel just to name a few. When the policies of both sides were delivered to voters who were not told whose policies they were, the voters preferred Harris' policies. That seems to indicate there was a right-wing media bias that distorted information and influenced people away from their own self interest. But of course, D.T. and friends will deny it.

Anaya, we have a strange D.T. (Dick Tator) supporter looking at our discussions. I'm afraid he drank too much kool-aid since he sees only one side as good and the other as evil. His middle initial and first letter of last name contains D.T. in it--too funny. We're glad the market is going up, but of course, where will it be in a few years? There's problems brewing...like Trump voters just now seeing how tariffs will raise prices / companies planning to shift production not to the U.S., but to Cambodia, Vietnam, Mexico, and Brazil to avoid the tariffs on China / families finding out their undocumented relatives face deportation...

You know who else had a good day on the stock market? All those mums and dads and working and middle-class people whose stocks and funds and securities and investments improved greatly. Capitalism ain’t perfect but it’s a lot better than Kamunism.

Keith, no problem occurs with capitalism provided adequate regulation exists. Undue influence from the rich on either side displeases me. I could say Musk and Adelson contributed so much to the D.T. associated PACS that the election was stolen, but we won't go there (lol). Keith Trestrail's voice should be just as strong as anyone else. Thanks for your comment and I will keep an open mind going forward. Let's see what the future actually holds...I promise to give credit where it is due. I hope justifications exists for your optimism! I really do.

Narcissists usually destroy the people and things that surround them. Let's hope the psychiatrists who have commented on D.T and E.M. are wrong....I doubt they are. We'll all be watching and commenting going forward!
