________________________________________________________________

He had a house and money he could spend. But that was not enough; he wanted more. He met a person posing as a friend, and she could see that greed was at his core. She flattered him. His mentor she became. She got him to invest all that he had. Too gullible was he to guess her game. He sobs with grief now, feeling ever sad. He took out loans and put himself in debt to feed his need to be a wealthy guy. He’ll lose his house and possibly his wife here now at the lowest point of his life.

Andrea, thanks for writing about this. Greed can make people do things with unfortunate consequences. The most important facets of life don't have all that much to do with wealth. A very hard lesson for people who have never had everything they ever wanted to buy then stopped to see if that was the do all end all of life. This poem should give people a lot to think about. Smiling!

This is sad. Lots of these things happen. Mistakes that can't be undone. Regrets. However the part about losing his wife too? A man should lose everything but his partner should be able to stand with him through all of it. Cheers Dear, Andrea.

it looks like she will stay with him, but he did a lot of this behind her back. If she loses the house, she may leave him. Their marriage is loveless.

Greed, like pride can lead to a fall. Some are so gullible, that they trust those who approach them with great promises. In the end, they fall into traps and into the nadir of doom from which they can never come out. Your sonnet tells the sad story of such a man. This great poem is a warning too to be careful of such traps. All the Best dear Andrea...

Sad indeed, Andrea, in this you've nicely weaved, and if the gist is greed, his answer is not austerity but temp prosperity--methinks he'll fall in the poorhouse to rise, Aloha William

We should be aware of people gaining trust to defraud you of hard earned money.
