My Sad Childhood

sitting on the park bench feeding the pigeons it is times like this i visit those wishes of mine as a child a vegetarian dog was on the list Santa never came thru a friend who would gladly eat mom's vegetables from beneath the table i think i would be a much better adult if as a child i did not suffer from brussel sprouts, spinach the panoply that was in the way of gravy and mashed potatoes corn was not all that bad i guess fruit was mostly good but life could have been better such as desserts i liked those we could have just skipped dinner saved my mother all that labor so as i evaluate it all mom could have made things easier my life could have been different if i had had that dog childhood tragedies fill my park bench as i feed the pigeons ruminating on the life i could have had with a Rin Tin Tin vegetarian OKC 5/22

A thoughtful piece of writing and a common thread among many. Well done. We would give ourselves different advice if we went back to our chilhood.

A sad childhood Timothy? Some things in life leave a bitter taste. Some people do too. The what ifs described through the naive mind of a child. I don't profess to understand your poem entirely but I don't think that matters. I liked the read and went back for seconds. Cheers - Gary

it is simply a fun poem....my childhood was less than perfect but i am long past such thoughts. in my counseling days, i did meet those with a different story and the lightness of this points to the solution, move past or drown in that past. mom said a dollop of humor begins the healing...mom knew

A sad childhood leaves painful memories for a life time. You are as gifted as you are now because those early experiences must have made you more mature.

this was a fun poem, a play on the previous poem "change" and on vegetables. see my reply to Gary above. i suffer no residual pain and to be truthful, inflicted my share. there is a reason the nuns whispered "Enfant Terrible" when i entered. i finished the Harvard Classics long before i left elementary school.

thank you, i like doing light verse, it is how i search for words i need to change, see "I am Havoc". searching lines instead of a thesaurus....and the proverbial wise guy crack that made me so many enemies...see above comment

Hello Timothy, Now I have never heard of a dog eating vegetables. My sister's dog loved meat, and eggs. Dogs love meats and chicken. Enjoy your day my friend.

it is merely a fun poem....yet therein is the message, feed the birds, much better than living in some past complaint...as mom said, humor begins the healing process...but as a former counselor some wounds are very deep and we need help...those who dwell in the past have no future and life is dicovering a life worth living
