Roundel
A roundel created by Algernon Charles Swinburne, is a form of verse used in poetry. A roundel consists of nine lines each having the same number of syllables, plus a refrain after the third line and after the last line.
Roundel's have three stanzas and its rhyme scheme is as follows:
A B A (R) (refrain)
B A B
A B A (R) (refrain)
My heart nearly burst, fearing what would come,
knowing fate selected you to die first.
When you got ill, I prayed you'd not succumb.
My heart nearly burst.
I found it hard to tell who felt the worst;
our moods flipped from optimistic to glum.
Your death devastated me; I felt cursed.
Beyond the pain, I feel empty and numb.
This tragedy has played out unrehearsed,
steeped in a sadness time can't overcome.
My heart nearly burst.
Now, I must endure living without you.
You were the only thing worth living for,
and I fervently wish I had died, too.
My heart nearly burst.
I've stopped smiling since Death knocked on our door,
and though I've cried countless tears... I'm not through,
I've never felt so all alone before.
Faith says we'll meet again; I pray that's true
and we'll be together forevermore,
but until then...love colors my heart blue.
My heart nearly burst.
