When I’ve had dark times in my life, and need uplifting at times of strife I listen to the words of this lovely song and get comfort and aim to be strong The path of life is winding not straight Many troubles can be put down to fate We need friends till our dying day Who’ll be with us come what may We all need good friends by our side to dry sad tears, too many I’ve cried They’ll be there any time that we need Special friends to be cherished indeed! When I was at my lowest, I had three angel friends care for me Jan. I pictured them as the legs of a little three legged stool, keeping me from toppling over. Big congrats on your placement with this classic poem to join a classic song.

Oh, Jan, this song played so much on the radio, I just got sick of it. Kind of like Hey Jude. Anyway, it truly IS a classic wonderful song and I adored the singers! have you seen ART Garfunkel today? you would not even recognize him. Hey. Go see the nut jokes I added to my poem.They were "cracking" me up at Google images

This is also great. You always say you can't write sonnets but look how well you rhyme these quatrains. 2 more lines and it'd be a brilliant sonnet (not as good as mine, mind you, but brilliant all the same). Regarding the song, I'll have to ask my mom about it. I'm not OLD enough to know it

aww Darren you are so sweet:-) I struggled to write for the contest as there are many songs I adore, but I've loved this song since my childhood and it has many memories for me and still makes me teary the moment i hear the opening piano chords:-) hugs jan xx

This is one of those songs that I sing until my tears begin to fall and my voice crumbles. Your verses are descriptive of what friendships should include. Nicely done, Jan.
