My neighbor gave me this little Maroon Bellied Conure because they didn't have the time or the patience to put up with him and he was suffering emotionally from it. He had pulled out all the feathers on his breast and back and had started on his wings. Conures are the smallest parrots in the world. About the size of a cockatiel only built different. Mine weighs about two pounds if that much. He has what is known as separartion anxiety. He had had two other hoes beforeI am the third home he has had. Parrots are very high maintenance and extremely possessive of their person. They want to be the only one so they try to drive away all other pets and even certain people.Parrots have very long life spans and are extremely emotional and highly intelligent so don't get one unless you have the time and patience to take proper care of one.You can't just put a parrot in a cage and throw sme food and watere in there for him once a day and think he is fine. He's not. He has to have attention just like a dog or a cat.
"Okay Bird, How 'bout it,
Would you like to live with me?"
I took him home, bought him a cage,
What luck! A parrot, Free!
I gave him to my husband,
Who said, "Golly Gee!
I try and try, he runs away,
Why won't he come to me?"
It seems that parrots take their pick,
And choose who they will choose.
He bit him on the finger,
And left a nasty bruise.
Bird chose me and that is that.
It has been three years now,
And there is no mistaking,
He is my bird and how.
He even let his feathers grow.
He's so attached to me.
He cuddles and he kisses me,
But others let him be.
He bit the dog, he bit the cat,
He tried to kill my budgie.
The only one he likes is me,
He is my little buddy.
I gave away the budgie,
But not the dog or cat.
He must accept they're family too,
And just get used to that.
