MY ACHY BREAKY HEART
This poem was written for Stones Poem Poetry Contest, Oliver Mckeithan, sponsor, June 20, 2025 Angie, you’re my honky tonk woman with a spirit free like wild horses dancing on the open dance floor, your mane in the breeze. Angie, I wanted to keep you under my thumb, ‘Paint it black,’ I said. ‘But Angie, I confess, ‘I love your vibrant hues, your laughter, those melodic notes of my honky tonk woman. Angie, ‘don’t be my Ruby Tuesday and break my heart.’ ‘You can’t always get what you want,’ she said. ‘Like tumbling dice, dating and dancing with me is a game of chance.’ Angie, you are indeed a gamble, just like one of the rolling stones, inscribing tracks of wonder and delight, straight to my achy-breaky heart. The title of my poem is "Achy, Breaky Heart," a 1990 song written by Don Vonn Tress and sung by Billy Ray Cyrus on his debut album in 1992.
