My Heart's In Alaska

MY HEART’S IN ALASKA Oh my heart lies frozen in her warm embrace My blood is running warm through her frosted trees, And what an aching loss not to be there - What a heart-breaking cross to bear! Wishing I was with her, always thinking ; And living not where I love. To those who never truly love How can I explain never forgetting? Never smelling her ice-perfume in my nose, Never feeling her dry breath down my neck, Nor crumping her white damasc Into pearl-grey hollows . No gentle smile from her diamond toothed mountain On sunlit silver snow no blue-eyed tear. Oh my heart’s in an ice land My heart’s not here.
