Musings On This Day

For what cause have we to morn? As life is a flickering breath we've known Whether we cry or laugh for our birth Reasons we know despair each year have grown Like the child in light of day with mirth We know not what or why We've trampled meadows beneath our feet And only for selfish reasons cry Like the young man who journeyed out To claim some portion of tested fate We've come to know our passions felt And found questions about love and hate So here we sit, in older skin Whose body has grown old and gray Our hair has thinned, our bellies fat Only worrying about how long we'll stay The world has changed since we appeared As we watch it pass us by We sit and talk among ourselves About lost years when we would lie Our tomorrow may never come For each day we move closer to death It's been a ride most would dream of We tested the scales before last breath 1/18/18/ Musings on a cold cloudy day

Oh, gloomy musings they are and I am coming to know them too, Frederic! Actually I was even musing on life being too short back in my 40's!! I miss the old world, though I enjoy some of the things in this world of now. Very nicely done. So metrical it does not even appear free verse to me (that is how I often write free verse myself)
