Sucker Punched

I can't recall exactly when Life swung and hit me on my chin I"m ashamed to say, it knocked me cold When I came to, I woke up old While I was out, I had a dream Of juggling on a balance beam While jumping hoops, upon one leg And one wrong move, cost one nest egg Was it yesterday or the day before I had it all but wanted more When days were long and fears were short Carouse by day, at night cavort Yesterday, less was more It must have been the day before I wish I'd seen life's sucker punch 'cause now my memory's out to lunch by Daniel Turner

Ah, this was so rib-tickling funny, Daniel. Yet very Yoda wise in it's presentation of life. Fantastic poetry which put a big smile in my heart. An instant classic fave of mine. Aurora bright write. Love and smiles always.

Hello Danny, Your wit with this sonnet is truly insatiable. Your humor is truly one-of-a-kind!! I really like the way in which you work up to "my memory's out to lunch." I can certainly identify with what you presented in this wondrous sonnet. Superb Work -- as always!! (I will try to get over your way more often to check out your great poetry -- always a pleasure!! Best Always, Gary

Great poem, I sure can relate to the sentiment in this piece. We never know what life has in store for us. I am finding a lot of things I never would have imagined happening to my loved ones and myself. A lot not so good which can be very trying. But I am thankful for the good that has happened as well. :)

I dig your witty mind, Danny! Aging is serious business, but it also needs to be taken with humour and a pinch of salt. Best regards // paul

Thank you Paul. I swear, I simply am amazed how fast time flies. It seems like only yesterday I buried my mother but it's been 7 months already. I appreciate you dropping by.

First of all I love the way you rhyme, second, your subject matter can be easily identified with, by almost everyone throughout their lives at one time or another. And best of all, I don't have to guess what you mean, you are clear and concise and above all entertaining. Good Luck on your next fortune my friend---and yes---there will be another one !

So much truth wrapped in excellent humor or sarcasm or both! I love this though I shouldn't for I feel its dark side and relate to it. You used wit as a platform for sincerity and did so with Daniel-talent that I hope is never prematurely turned off. I owe you a long mail, but am so busy tripping over my own life lately, you wouldn't believe all that's come up - or maybe you would. Hope to share soon, did not forget. So good to see your pen busy, may it remain to hot to lay down. Hugs... CayCay

Hi Daniel, this poem made me grin from ear to ear! I am so very happy to see you post again!! You have been very much missed by me and lots of poets here. I could relate to your humor in this piece. Time seems to fly by so fast. I got a text from my daughter today wishing me Happy Groundhog Day. I was so happy she let me know or I would have missed watching my favorite movie...Groundhog Day. I love reading your poetry, it always cheers me. Love, Connie xxoo : )
