POTD

Mystical labyrinth of twisting harmonic warnings Gazing into infinity’s composing handiwork – Moonbeams in silver sung sonatas – Ivory hued cantatas resolved from heart pacing crescendos Spring’s soothing birdcalls after tympanic thunder. Measured tempos of rhythms search for their time signature As aching melodies in moveable feasts of swans Search for resolutions in atonal firebird tango ballads Through classical dusty suites of western legends Not losing pitch or tripping over downbeats. Too many notes squeeze into four square spaces When magic flutes songs soar over seraglio dreams Imperial marches set imprisoned phrasing free with fanfares And close encounters of key notes discard dissonance Seeking rhapsody in hues of blue. Plaintive and joyful - hopeful and merciful - Healing rhythms inspired from the eternal melody, A lost chord to haunt then heal the midnight heart All arranged in one accord from the Master’s apprentices To rest in finality of one trailing echo of waltzing river.

Hi Sam, I love how you've weaved references to classical music pieces into your work. Had I not read John's comments below I wouldn't have noticed how many you actually managed. Congratulations! Reading it again in a sort of ..adagio... pace I can now pick them up. :) Cheers - Gary

Hi Gary! Thank you so much for your gracious words of compliment and congratulations! Love the way you are re-reading in adagio! That is a serious compliment when a fellow poet goes back and re-reads a poem! Thank you. Music, like writing, is such an integral part of my life and brings me so much joy! Had fun weaving into the poem a few of my favorite pieces! Take care! Blessings! Cheers!!

It's no surprise to me at all that my friend Samba would choose out of all the 'M' words in the dictionary to write about music. Also no surprise you were awarded a POTD for this absolute gem (another fav for me, BTW). What comes as a beautiful surprise is how you keep finding creative ways to harmonize musical lingo within your poetry. I don't know of anyone who does this better than you do. Love your subtle references to Swan Lake, Moonlight Sonata, the Magic Flute, the Grand Canyon Suite (or was that Billy the Kid?), Rhapsody in Blue, the Firebird Suite, the Blue Danube, even a couple of John Williams nods, along with so many fantastic phrases and alliterations that rush by faster than the Flight of the Bumblebee... I think my favorite was your little wink to Amadeus ("too many notes"). Love it! Better than "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the 7th inning stretch! Still a big fan ~ R&Rbro

Thank you so much dear friend of poetry, music and, of course, baseball! I am humbled by your feedback and your fav! What an honor. I knew you would pick up all of the musical references - the only one! Right on! So much fun to share this musical salad with my kindred musical-poetic friend! How blessed are we to know this very special gift from God's own loving heart - truly God's heart song! I truly believe the images and words come from our loving God! And, we get to sing our baseball anthem starting Thursday! Yippee! As always your messages lift my spirits like a home run ball soaring over the outfield fence! Grace and peace to you! Blessings of joy R&R Bro! Easter is coming!!

Hi Ken! Your lovely note of congratulations was like a new song in my heart! Thank you! Yes! Those two half steps between the third and fourth notes of the scale and the seventh and eighth notes have birthed magic for centuries! Truly a "gift!" On a different "note," this winter in CA has been like a NW winter. I wasn't sure how I would handle the rain and cold, but my NW genes kicked right in and I found myself delighting in the downpours as well as sending up prayers for those devastated by flooding and roof collapses! Hope you are well. All the best. Blessings!

Greetings Bill! I am so sorry to hear that you have been sick! I hope it's not COVID! Notes of congratulations are always a joy. Thank you taking the time to send your congratulatory message. So happy you enjoyed this musical interlude - this sonata to music - music that has been so integral to my life. Was such a wonderful experience to remember music's influence! Sending you blessings to the music of a Texas two step! Hope you continue to heal quickly!

Hi Tom! I am so glad you didn't miss this poem! Your poems are so lyrical I feel a kindred musical spirit! Thank you for your lovely note of congratulations. A POTD is such a special honor. I am truly humbled. So far we have made it through the storms. We have needed the rain and snow so badly I can't complain. This child of the northwest rainy winters has enjoyed the rain! Maybe its my Cunningham DNA! Stay well, warm and dry! Over Fork Over!

Hi Anaya! Truly music is part of our DNA, almost the soul of our soul! You are so right when you say music is part of every culture throughout history. It is even in the harmonic vibrations of the spheres. Thank you so much for your lovely message - music to my heart! I hope all is well with you. You have had more than your fair share of snow this winter! It's been quite a winter for CA! But, we have desperately needed the snow and rain. Take care. Sending you blessings on wings of melody and gratitude!

Have to admit that I was looking for 'rap' in your poem. When I didn't find it, I was overjoyed! You 'poemed' about real music. Thanks, Sam, and congrats on POTD! ~ Melody and Magic, Gershon

Hey Gershon, thank you!! Music has formed the framework and structure of my life in sharps and flats on straight "lines!" Writing this poem was a joyful journey into music and the pieces of music that are precious as treasure to me. Like you, rap will never compare to Beethoven or even John Williams. But, that being said, I guess it has it's place. Thanks so much for listening to the song of life with me! It indeed lives on the scale of magic through melody! Blessings!

Hi SuZ! Thank you so much for your "note" of congratulations and well wishes! Totally agree with you - "music is where it's at..." What a gift from eternity's heart! And E Flat is one of the most expressive notes with overtones of both joy and sadness. So grateful for your feedback. Blessings to you!
