MURDER MOST FOUL

There was a certain dread in the air Like something ominous was ahead, The building started to tremble, It seemed impossible, a mental Numbness gripped the people, A disbelief, so morbid, As a plane crashed through the upper floors, Terrifying, just imagine, It was as if the grim reaper had come, so horrid, The plane exploded inside the tower Like a bullet, which sprayed bodies Everywhere, those still alive lived the horror, Desperate people on fire, jumping From windows, screaming, People dying, many loudly crying Bricks and mortar raining Down, falling alight, injuring Hundreds, some kept it together helping Others who wouldn’t make it, A day from Hell people yelled. The building we learnt, was burning from within, Melting the steel in the cement, The tower started shuddering. We are not going to make it people cried out, Their children their wives, their husbands, Their mothers, their fathers, their sisters, Their brothers, imagine them all how helpless They felt as they watched this present horror taking Place on TV, many driving with screeching Tyre's to the site, to see if this was real. The second plane that crashed into the Twin Tower, was much the same as the first. The same destruction, the same dread, the same . Fire enveloping the higher storeys as the plane Exploded. Murder most foul, The Towers ultimately fell, With thousands of people trapped, And many brave firemen amongst them, All dropping into a molten brick and Cement fiery grave. Our wish to their families is peace, For their heartbreak will never cease, And then to those who bore, The brunt of the American wrath, Innocent children amongst them killed Families bombed and perhaps Died or burnt to death By flames from buildings that spilled. We are all children of God, Why should anyone have to face Any human attack, a death squad, Was this not murder most foul? United we all deep down want the same, We want peace to reign. Yet history repeats itself, With the Israeli, Gaza carnage. On this day 9/11 My husband and I, had just entered the gym, and saw people People crowded by the TV. We saw the second plane crash Into the other twin tower, in time, as it happened, And were struck with horror at what was happening, Watching in total disbelief. Thank you Agatha Christie, Title, 'Murder Most Foul' borrowed from your book published in 1988

This was an incident of demoniac brutality we all wish to forget and never wish to be repeated. I had the fortune to visit these sky kissing twin towers almost a year before it was raced down and again one year later when it remained as a searing gash in the heart of New York city. There was a hush in the air as tourists and visitors stood respectfully before the crash site, replaying in mind the terrible images of a year back. You have once again brought back those memories in all their fierce intensity ! Great narration, dear Jenny!

You capture the horror and the humanity very well here. It is not something we can forget. War is a horrible scar on the communities it affects, for generations.. very sad. If only we could learn. Blessings, Jennifer, for this brave poem.

There are a lot of very angry people in this world. We should try to understand this and talk about what we can do to work together to make this place more pleasant for all Earth inhabitants. There are also a lot of cult-oriented people who can't think for themselves. Not easy to solve these issues so more death ensues. A really grim fairy tale sorry to say. I kinda liked Marianne Williamson's presidential candidacy here in 2020. Check her out (even though she's going nowhere).

Jennifer, I remember this very well. I was taking Tuesday off from work and saw what happened on TV. At the time I was a flight instructor in NY and had flown past the towers many times. The sadness for this will always grip us and pain the families of the dead and injured. It's all so unnecessary as you point out. If we had poets in charge of our governments and lessened our focus on ourselves and could think globally, things might change. Thanks for remembering. It's important to consider.

Oh poets could run every other facet of society, we have the intuition, the compassion, the wherewithal, and the presense to govern the world. Poets rule!

Very touching poem, Jen. It was the most terrible experience I've seen happening. Screaming and pain spread beyond the actual scene through the TV. The obsession with money and power, and the need some people feel that they must be right, and everyone must believe as they do is terrifying. Let each decide for themselves how they believe, but still embrace Love instead of hate for those different than ourselves. Thanks for sharing this meaningful poem with us. Pray for peace. Love, Bill

I still remember the incident, it was my second day at a new job... I will never forge that moment.. so many atrocities, still happening today, especially all the innocent people killed in Israel and Gaza, I do not know why humans are killing each other over scriptures.. but surely all scriptures teach peace... All the best dear Jennifer..
