Mother and Fawn

I stopped beside the wooded glen and saw With early fawn beside a bubbling brook A whitetail I had seen before the thaw In my backyard foraging for food Heavy with her unborn child. She glanced my way and flicked her tail To warn the little one of danger near But she had no reason at all to fear Me standing in awe of her elegance Respecting her regal presence And wondering what the season for her Might bring for her and her progeny Or if one day I might see the little one All grown and foraging on my lawn.

What a beautiful gift that must have been to see mother and child, moments like these don't come around often and when they do, they are to be soaked in for future poetry, and wonderful memories. Thank you for sharing dear Milton

Thanks, Pixie Dust. Actually, the following spring the fawn, all-grown, returned to forage in our backyard. Thanks for your response to this poem.
