Morning Surprise

early dawn, darkness gone sunlight wakes to stretch and yawn mourning dove, sign of love soaring in the sky above morn’s surprise, in her eyes bluer than the bluest skies smile so sweet, lips entreat kisses now the morn replete warm caress, with finesse wanton eyes desires express hold me now, don’t allow day without a lover’s vow heart beats race, love’s embrace takes us to that special place mourning dove, up above singing now his song of love

Hi Darlene, thank you for your comments. While the poem is a rhyme, it IS a romantic love poem. I'm glad you enjoyed it. John

Very nice how you incorporate rhyme in a style that otherwise resembles free verse, John. I like the short, vividly descriptive lines and your avoidance of too many articles -- "the" and "a" -- that help free verse be less wordy and more powerful. Really enjoyed this!

Thank you, Carolyn, I appreciate your thoughts. I was listening to the song "Nocturne" performed by Secret Garden yesterday and couldn't understand the lyrics so I looked it up, truly beautiful poetry. I used the same rhyme scheme in this poem as they used in the chorus of "Nocturne." I glad you enjoyed this. John

Such a wonderful surprise indeed, as the sun kisses a sweet sky in the tender touch of morning. Love being a warm embrace, the beautiful melody you never wish to escape from. This is so romantic my dear friend. :) Brandy
