Miss You Mama
I have now reached the age that you were then,
Dear Mama when you died.
There’ve been so many times I needed you
To hold me when I cried.
Did you know when I lost my first-born child?
Were you sad, did you cry?
Did you worry when I was mad at God
For letting my son die?
Did you speak to God about me, Mama?
Somehow I’ve gotten through.
I am sure you wanted to comfort me
The way you used to do.
Is your grandson there with you, dear Mama?
If so please give a sign.
I’d like to think your arms are holding him
Since he can’t be in mine.
He was so sure he was your favorite.
Each grandchild felt that way.
You’d more than enough love to go around.
We miss it to this day.
