There lived a girl who loved animals She had three cats who’d been abandoned She loved them so and wanted them to know That they would always have a home with her One morning she went out for the morning paper One cat was missing and she searched for it’s ebony Form as it was the one who she loved the most But when she discovered her she was listless Midnight was the kitten who she deeply cherished And somehow her cat once found been cut to pieces She had her Mom rush the animal to the vet Where it was met with a good and kind doctor Finally, after many days at the vet’s office And with only evening phone calls to encourage her The girl went home with her cat who now had Not four, but three legs… and no tail – oh well! That cat could climb a tree, on legs – only three As well as the next kitty who had all four legs And soon it was shown to be, the kitty who knew It’s place was with this girl, who loved her totally! Midnight lived until the girl turned seventeen And gave many hours of affectionate purring With a heart that knew without any doubting That love lived in the heart of this hopeful child Black Cat Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Robert James Liguori March 22, 2022

A lovely story, Regina. Reminds me of a time when I found a wounded wood-pecker in my backyard. I nursed it for a month until his wing was better, the sad and unfortunate thing was when I came home from school I found feathers all over the place...my cat got to him (lol) I cried for hours. Congratulations on your winning placement. Hugs.. Charlie
