the moon stopped by my room tonight to peek and paint me with its pastel light and though there's much its glow can do it always whispers in my ear ... of YOU of countless times we swam its beams while making love and spinning dreams but this eve brought sorrow I can't dismiss I've finally forgotten the taste ... of your kiss. ~ 7th Place ~ in the "Early August Premiere" Poetry Contest, Brian Strand, Judge & Sponsor.

Saw you mention this on FB, Greg. It's intoxicating in its wistfulness. To realize the sensory loss of an important element of our past; taste of a lover's lips, sound of a father's voice, sight of a grandmother's smile, the words spoken by a friend. The moon is a marvelous totem to rekindle memories. For my grandmother, it's the smell of eucalyptus trees after a rain. For my dad it's the stock market report on the news! Your poetry often enkindles nostalgia in me; for that I thank you! ~ John

(2) ... can still smell the marvelous aroma of my grandparents house, the smell of the ocean at my other grandparents (my grampa was a seaman), the sound of my dad's chuckle, my true love's giggle and sigh, (though I haven't seen her in 35 years) ... what a tool for us crafters of the word - the imaginations of our readers! Blessings, Bud! :o)

Thank you so much, John, that means a great deal to me ... that's what poetry is about for me - affecting the spirits and imaginations of others, and drawing on our experiences of the senses is the best way to do that, as those sensations often bring forth those memories, as you say. I can still taste the dog biscuits I ate as a child ...
