Medusa

Medusa
Mythology of three sisters
Monstrous, snakes coiled as hair
Men who are human are hated
Mortal and beauty is she
Most turned to stone when eye to eye
Murdered by Perseus for her head
Minerva’s punishment

Love this evocative piece. Another woman demonized, more snakes than you can shake a stick at! But then sprang Pegasus…

Hello Darlene, yes, it is Greek Mythology and so tragic endings are common. Thank you for your visit!

Come on! What man does not want head from a beautiful face? And what woman does not prefer a rock-hard man to a shrivelled-up softy? Athena, Goddess of Wisdom, simply proved smart women can not cope with men prefering beauty to intelligence! Enjoyed, Amaya! Aloha!

What a tragic end for murderous Medusa. I enjoyed reading this poem this morning and learning about the fate of this mythological character. Take care.

Hi Valerie, yes, she, the beautiful face who was turned into a monster by the jealousy of Athena, (Minerva) Greek counterpart Athena is attributed to Minerva in Roman mythology. Thus, using Minerva for the poem (all M's) Thank you for your visit! Anaya

Hi Valsa, I find Greek and Roman Mythology quite a fun study. I really enjoy this. Thank you, Anaya

I read somewhere that there were 3 Gorgon sisters, two were immortal and one was mortal. Medusa was mortal. apparently quite beautiful and normal, with luxurious hair. Unfortunately Medusa made the mistake of planking Poseidon in Athena's temple, I prefer to think she was seduced by the cad and because of this, Athena ropable her temple had been defiled thus, turned Medusa into an ugly hag with a headful of snakes....blighting any man that glanced at her - this can happen to naive yet adventurous nymphs. I feel for Medusa.

The three Gorgon sisters—Medusa, Stheno, and Euryale—were all children of the ancient marine deities. I loved the study and will do some more poetry on this subject.

Gazing directly upon her would turn men to stone. She was beheaded by the hero Perseus, using the sword Harpe, who thereafter used her head as a weapon until he gave it to the goddess Athena to place on her shield (the Aegis). Her head still had that ability~~~RAPED by POSEIDON~~~

....and then to top it off, pardon the pun, that a'hole Purseus (Percy for short), cut off her head and still 'used' Medusa - as a weapon. Some women are just unlucky in love.
