"Another May, new buds and flowers shall bring. Ah! Why has happiness no second spring?" Charlotte Smith

For the  Ottava Rima Poetry Contest of Emile Pinet __________________________________________

My heart sings in the marvelous month of May. Of the seasons' beauties there are none so fair as this princess who in sunlight loves to sway with warm breezes and with flowers in her hair. The greening of meadows she puts on display. Blue jay's song she brings. I'm lifted from despair. Too swiftly does she leave. Soon to take her place are summer's princesses -no match for May's grace.

Andrea, you have truly captured the lovely personality of May with "warm breezes," and "flowers in her hair." That reminds me of the song about San Francisco. Sweet personification. Best wishes for the contest! Blessings!

May is the loveliest month of the year and it is dedicated to Our Lady. Your poem is beautifully written in a style I don't think I ever used. Best for a win.

Dear Andrea, Your poem beautifully captures the essence of the marvelous month of May. The imagery of nature's awakening and the joy it brings to the heart is enchanting. Your words lay out a picture of the season's beauty and the fleeting nature of its grace. Thank you for sharing this delightful piece. - Blessings, My Friend, Daniel

Ah, May has won my heart! I wish I could have her the whole year, but I guess it's almost time to say goodbye. Hmm, I wonder if you write a poem about the summer months, June could then compete with May?

Andrea, you made a beautiful tribute to the month about to leave us. She is beautiful with feminine qualities. It's very appealing to a male ego and makes us sad she's about to walk away. Nice we get to have a reunion in 2025!

Are you talking about a reunion of your own, like your high school? I enjoyed your fun comment still personifying May

Wonderful writing, I loved the part about "summer princesses" what an unusual way to put it, "no match for May's grace"- yes! :)

thanks, Paige. I wanted to use royalty, but it was giving a different syllable count, which makes no sense because princesses and royalty both have three syllables, in my opinion anyway
