Many, Many Long Years Ago

I was young after the world war Always hungry, so wanting more, But I had faith, that's what I know. Many, many long years ago. Schools reopened and books I bought, Manners, thoughts, writing I was taught, Through life I hovered to and fro, Many, many long years ago. Finished all school, parties were held, Met a bright girl, with love I swelled She I adored, life was a glow Many, many long years ago. Married in love, we had a child, But life with death left me beguiled Now that she's gone, I feel that blow Many, many long years ago.

Hi Victor, What a pretty, sad yet beautiful write - we can all remember many many years ago, and my British father met my Greek mother when the Britsh troops liberated Greece. My Greek grandfather had studied at a Public school in London and then continued to study to become an Optometrist, returned to Greece and opened his own business. Was always pro British and when my mom and dad met, he was very happy. I loved your poem Victor, and your wife is your guardian angel. Hugs and blessings JEN.

I share your grief ! To live alone without a companion is painful. But you manage to keep yourself happy in the sweet memories of a blissful life long long years ago.

I haven't been through that in life, but I know it must be hard. Mostly the man goes first so usually in old age there are more women than men of the same age. I don't think that another person could ever match up to the first wife or husband, but who knows a person might find a wonderful mate to share the rest of their life. Thanks for sharing this one and for dropping by my page. Sara
