my sense of direction isn't reliable did I turn on the spot or do I observe myself doing so overarching crescents thought bubble for an empty mind yet no more complex than a shape sorter each posted through a slot then just irregularity left behind perhaps analysed rather than this line of sight trained on seeing nothing how long can the unacknowledged remain in existence let's look at it another way let's look at it another way let's look at it another way unhelpful in the end though there is a gap in the sky perhaps on the other side of here everything will look different

Another brilliant Ekphrasis. Presentation is exceptional and the poem is an unmistakable original by that world class Ekphrasis master, Dilly Dally !

Ahh but you underestimate me. To the moon and back is my favourite journey and the reason I loved this one so. My dear-hearted Jemma and I end every correspondence with, "to the moon and back with love"........... SV

Obviously to get into it I wore a bowler hat whilst writing - but I know you'd expect nothing less of me haha. My key motivations, as always, are to take the reader on a journey - on this occasion to the moon and back. The gifting of space travel is no mean feat which has left me tired, so I appreciate your words of gratitude for my effort :)

So clever and creative how you’ve articulated your lines, in the shape of crescent and analyzed and interpreted the picture too so beautifully! Iv never tried this form but seeing you do them is inspiring me, is it like doing a picture prompt? I loved reading this

Awn thats so kind of you to say, and yes i will have to find a famous artwork, i usually use pictures from pinterest as picture prompts on my prompt page on insta, many love pic prompts there too, but iv never really thought this form is about interpreting picture prompts. Good to learn. Ill try for experience. You are so kind to explain. Thank you again

It isn't a hindrance for Brian's contests as he is familiar with a wide array of artists anyway and is happy if the painting and artist is mentioned. I've had trophy and podium wins with no image for ekphrasis - but they tended to be very well known paintings. Give it a go - it'll suit someone with such a free imagination such as yourself

Before I could post pictures and occasionally now if they contain nudity - I'll just leave a note to say that the poem is best viewed with the painting. I got some early feedback that some people enjoyed reading them before seeing the painting to see if the mental image matched their own. I have figured out adding images on my phone though - you set it to desktop mode and the options appear that then correspond to the guidance. Good luck

Thank you for taking some time with the poem. I suppose at its simplest it is a picture prompt - it depends on the art whether it becomes very emotionally immersive or just a jumping off point to get the first few lines on the page. Many paintings have a back story with the artist or the subject that it can be interesting and sometimes complex to weave in. This was done 5 minutes before I fell asleep and is surrealism left to the imagination, so I was free to pick anything from the image. Just became shape driven to create questions about introspection. Thought I may as well match the shape as it was there in the moon, the ear, the hat, the shoulder, nape, jaw, bridge, then echoed in shadows. Thanks for your kind comment x
