Lucky Stars
My daughter's due date was 12 years ago today (she wasn't born for another 12 days though)
Tonight she asked if we could spend her bedtime in the hammock outside chatting
We watched as twilight faded
Bats came out and flew over our heads
And we lay snuggled together
Watching stars pop one by one into view
Deciding which were shooting stars or planes
We listened to the sheep on the fields
They never disturb us despite being noisy
The motion of a bats flight is mesmerising
Acrobatic, controlled chaos
For some reason a lone sock had been forgotten on the line, which was exciting for 1 split second
We chatted about the day, celebrated Nanna's bravery, talked about pending high school
And I realised how lucky I am
