I will unfold a story
of a sad lover's quarrel.
It had snowed all through the night
and was bitter cold-
We were in bed soft as nesting doves-
His kisses beautiful and gentle as a flower.
Then- "TIME TO GET UP!" (he announced)
and he jumped out of bed to get ready
for his job in the city-
I sat up sleepy and looked outside-
It was a sea of pure white snow and still falling!
I followed him and said, "DON'T GO (please
darling!)' He told me I was silly and to go back to bed-
and some awful, hurtful words followed: (from both of us)
Words are weapons on the soul that never fade.
He slammed the door! (when he left)
I hung my head in sadness and went back to sleep.
And my dreams of him sailed across a blue sky
and the drum of time rolled.
I was sorry for the mean words and would kiss them away-
But, a fatal message winged its way to me-
A loud knock on the door!
We regret to inform you-
Now, my life is weather-stained with tears
and my dreams are lost-
In the vastness of cold snow-draped headstones:
until I stand at his weeping!
