Swap Quatrain
Created by Lorraine M. Kanter. Within the Swap Quatrain each stanza in the poem must be a quatrain (four lines) where the first line is reversed in the fourth line. In addition, line 2 must rhyme with line 1, and line 3 must rhyme with line 4 and so on, BUT not repeat the same rhyming pattern on subsequent stanzas. Rhyming pattern: AABB, CCDD, and so on.
Love cannot exist without trust,
as a precursor, it's a must.
Strangers get easily dismissed,
without trust, love cannot exist.
One must be close, to break your heart,
therefore love can tear it apart.
When trust is lost, it hurts the most,
to break your heart, one must be close.
You were betrayed by one you loved,
your closest friend, once beloved.
After all of the facts got weighed,
by one you loved, you were betrayed.
Time cannot repair such a hurt,
though it's a hurt hearts can't avert.
To have known love that wasn't there,
such a hurt, time cannot repair.
